Dear Congressman,

Laws already exist that make it wrong to conduct violence against anyone. It is unnecessary and harmful to create special classes of people against whom it is "more of a crime". Violence against anyone is already wrong and it would be better to enforce the laws that already exist than create new ones.

I urge you to oppose the Defense Appropriations bill if the "hate crimes" language is not removed. Laws already exist in all 50 states to punish violent crime, making the "hate crimes" language unnecessary, unfair, indefinable, un-American and constitutionally suspect. The "hate crimes" language in this bill is not designed to aid in fighting crime. The reality is that the purpose of this language is to silence those who speak out against homosexuality.

Everywhere hate crimes laws have gone into effect, they have been quickly used to intimidate, silence and punish people of faith who express deeply held religious objections to the normalization of homosexuality.

Such laws not only punish officially disapproved speech and thought, they create two tiers of victims. Under hate crimes laws, some victims get more protections than others, which violates the fundamental American principle of equality under the law.

In fact, such laws actively discriminate against heterosexual Christians who are victims of crime, since they will get less legal protection than homosexual victims.

And since "sexual orientation" is nowhere defined in the legislation, this law will give pedophiles, voyeurs, and exhibitionists special protections, which is why the bill has correctly been called "The Pedophile Protection Act."

Heath care is about caring for life

There are many reasons I urge you to oppose the Health Care Bill (HR 3200), but among the most important is that it will put Planned Parenthood clinics inside the nation's public schools.

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider and the most dangerous purveyor of the mythical "safe sex" message which has deprived so many American teens of their sexual innocence and left them with diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

I am fundamentally opposed to the Health Care Bill (HR 3200) and any attempt at government take- over of the health care industry. I urge you to oppose the Health Care Bill (HR 3200) or any health care plan that invites Planned Parenthood onto our public school campuses.

Caring for the health of children

There are many reasons I oppose the Health Care Bill (HR 3200), but stopping the taxpayer funding of abortion is perhaps the most important.

The Capps Amendment specifically says that that the "public health insurance option shall provide coverage for (abortion) services," and directs the "Commissioner" to "assure" that every American will have access "to at least one ... plan that provides coverage of (abortion) services."

It is immoral to fund the destruction of innocent human life. We must protect those most vulnerable among us by opposing the Health Care Bill (HR 3200).

Stop "cap and trade"

Dear Congressman,

I urge you to oppose the disastrous "cap and trade" bill. Policy analysts say the bill will raise energy costs, increase unemployment and weaken the economy. The legislation limiting greenhouse gas emissions will hit consumers with a 60-percent spike in gasoline prices and a 90-percent increase in electricity prices, after inflation.

Again, I strongly urge you to oppose this legislation. "Cap and trade" will destroy the American economy and dramatically increase energy costs for the average American.

Health care for babies

There are many reasons I oppose the Health Care Bill but stopping the taxpayer funding of abortion is perhaps the most important.

The Hyde Amendment prevents Medicaid funds - and Medicaid funds only - from being used for abortions, but that restriction wouldn't apply to the current HR3200 bill.

For any Health Care Bill under your consideration, please work to ensure that it includes amendments that prevent taxpayer funding of abortion.

Hate Crimes legislation does not belong in a defense bill

I urge you to vote "no" on the Defense Authorization Bill if the "hate crimes" language is not removed. Though I support adequate funding for the military, this attachment is a poison pill that makes the bill unacceptable. Our military deserves a stand-alone vote on funding.

I oppose the "hate crimes" bill because it criminalizes thought, endangers freedom of religion and speech, and destroys the American principle of equality under the law.

School is for learning, not indoctrination

Dear Congressman,

Kevin Jennings is not qualified under any ethical standard to be entrusted with the safety of our nation's public school children. Therefore I urge Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to immediately call for Jennings's resignation. I also call on my members of Congress to urge the Secretary of Education to ask for Mr. Jennings' resignation.

Jennings is the founder of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which pushes so-called "anti-bullying" policies which even GLSEN admits are really about promoting "affirmation" of homosexual behavior in the school system.

Jennings is intolerant of the "religious right," 90% of whom enroll their children in public schools, and said in a 2000 speech "I'm trying not to say '[F---] 'em'...I don't care what they think. Drop dead!"

He wants homosexual indoctrination of students at all levels, having written the forward to a book entitled "Queering Elementary Education," and saying in 2004, "Ex-gay messages have no place in our nation's public schools...There is no 'other side' when you're talking about lesbian, gay and bisexual students."

By his own admission he failed his legal duty to report what he believed to be a case of statutory rape when a young student approached him for counsel after the boy had been preyed on by an older adult in a local bus station bathroom. Jennings' main piece of advice: "I hope you know how to use a condom."

He writes in his 2006 memoir without any remorse of frequently getting "drunk and stoned" when he was a teenager.

It is time for the "Safe and Drug Free Schools" Czar to resign.

Protect Constitutional Freedom

Dear Congressman,

I urge you to oppose H.R. 2981 - H.R. 3017 - S. 1584: the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). The negative implications of the bill on the work place environment, employment litigation, and society are significant. ENDA will trigger unnecessary employee disputes and present problems and pressures for both workers and employers.

ENDA is aimed at providing heightened protections for particular sexual behaviors. It would grant special consideration on the basis of "sexual orientation" that would not be extended to other employees in the work place.

The case has not been made that systemic and widespread discrimination justifies a new legally protected class. Don't you think that you have a right to work without being subjected to sexual expressions, political agendas and other non-work related conduct? For example, as employers prepare to comply with the legislation and guard against frivolous claims, employees will be trained to be more "sensitive" to gay and lesbian co-workers and pressured to embrace and promote all values, even those that violate their own religious or personal convictions.

ENDA violates employers' and employees' Constitutional freedoms of religion, speech and association. The proposed legislation would prohibit employers from taking their deeply held beliefs into account when making personnel decisions. This would pose an unprecedented intrusion by the federal government into people's lives.

ENDA would approvingly bring private behavior considered immoral by many into the public square. By declaring that all sexual preferences are equally valid, ENDA would change national policy supporting marriage and family.

ENDA would strike at the very heart of our American liberties, and I urge you to oppose it.

Stop taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood

Please voice your support for Rep. Pence's amendment to H.R. 3043 that would prevent taxpayer dollars from being used to fund Planned Parenthood or its affiliates. Your support on this crucial amendment is needed.

According to Planned Parenthood's own 2005-2006 Annual Report, Planned Parenthood received over a third of their income--$300 million-from government funding. Although the government monies are prohibited by law from being used for abortions, that funding still helps Planned Parenthood in its overall operations.

As the House debates the portion of the Labor/HHS bill that includes the funding for Community Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) programs, I hope I can count on your support of the measure.

Abstinence is the only sure contraceptive and the only sure way to prevent harmful STDs. Abstinence also curbs behaviors that can cause great emotional pain. Abstinence education lets our youth know that they have a choice and can have a way to control what happens to their bodies.

This amendment is unnecessary as there are already laws on the books that deal with violent actions against people. This amendment is also unrelated to the defense budget.

I value equal protection for all victims of crimes, and "Hate Crimes" legislation in any form does NOT accomplish this.

Instead, laws currently on the books should be enforced and it is unnecessary to create more division by preferential law enforcement for one group over another.

Victoria's Secret: Stop sexualizing teens

Is it acceptable to feature a topless teenager in a window display which fosters the acceptance of youth as objects of sex?

SB 543 Takes control away from the parents

Please vote against SB 543. This bill takes control away from the parents and gives it to the state by making children start school before they are ready. SB 543 interferes with a parent's right to make educational choices in the best interest of their child.

According to the 2005 NAEP test scores, children from states that have low compulsory attendance ages (5-6) did not score any higher than children from the other states, and in some subjects their average was actually lower.

Many education experts have concluded that beginning a child's formal education too early may actually result in burnout and poor scholastic performance later.

A report published February 6, 2007 by the Goldwater Institute examines Stanford 9 test scores and finds Arizona kindergarten programs initially improve learning but have no measurable impact on reading, math, or language arts test scores by fifth grade.

The data show that students in schools with all-day kindergarten programs have statistically significant higher 3rd-grade test scores, but there is no impact on 5th-grade scores. This finding is consistent with previous research. Forcing children into school early delivers short-term benefits at best.

Another significant impact of expanding the mandatory schooling is the inevitable tax increase to pay for more classroom space and teachers to accommodate the additional students compelled to attend public schools. When California raised the age of compulsory attendance, unwilling students were so disruptive that new schools had to be built just to handle them and their behavior problems, all at the expense of the taxpayer.

HR254: Enhancement of Federal Enforcement of Hate Crimes

It came to my attention that the House Judiciary Committee has begun consideration of Rep Lee's bill, H.R.254, that seeks to establish a new federal offense for hate crimes and would mandate a separate federal criminal prosecution for state offenses tried under its provisions that includes a sentence of life imprisonment.

I oppose ambiguous "hate-crime" laws because they do not provide equal protection of all Americans as the U.S. Constitution demands. Law-enforcement should instead focus on punishing crimes and criminal behavior, not thoughts.

Criminal laws already on the books are not being enforced. Creating new laws will do nothing but make a bad situation worse.

Victims of violence can best be served by the justice system enforcing existing laws and returning to a focus on delivering justice for the victims instead of leniency on the criminals.

H&R Block sponsors anti-Christian Wife Swap

Petition to Protect Military Prayer

Military chaplains have served our nation faithfully for well over 200 years. Many have suffered and some have even died in the line of duty. Meanwhile, our men and women in uniform have benefited greatly by having the full and free ministry of chaplains available to them. To censor the prayers of chaplains in their ministry to our servicemen and women is an outrage; yet this is an immediate possibility unless action is taken to protect our chaplains from such restrictions. Unfortunately, there are strong forces at work in our country which would advocate such restrictions.

We respectfully request that you, as Commander-in-Chief, direct the Secretary of Defense to issue new regulations to protect the constitutional right of military chaplains to pray according to their faith.

Support the amendment to strike Section 220 of S. 1.

I understand that an amendment has been introduced to remove an extremely troubling provision in S. 1, a bill you and your colleagues are now debating. I can't emphasize to you enough my hope that you will support this amendment -- and support my right to free speech.

As I understand it, the provision in question -- Section 220 -- would place severe restrictions on my right to hear from groups I trust about what is going on in Congress. Because these groups be subject to fines of $100,000 for not complying with the miles of red tape the bill mandates, I am greatly concerned they will simply stop providing me with information I need to know about legislation that affects me.

I applaud your efforts to clean up the unethical activity of some lobbyists on Capitol Hill -- but those are not the kinds of lobbyists being targeted by Section 220. People like me are the ones being targeted.

So, please vote for the Bennett amendment to strip the unfair grassroots-lobbying provisions in S.1. Anything less would be allowing a muzzle to be placed on the very men and women who put you in office.
